Meupe Podcast #6a
Rhythmatism by Traianos Pakioufakis

Meupe Podcast #6b
Rhythmatism by Ben Taaffe
42:318 | 61mb
It wasn't our intention to be into special guest re-runs already, but we have had some requests to make the recent limited edition Rhythmatism (Volume 2) mixtape available for download. As the mixtape was made especially for a special Meupe curated Rhythmatism night, we thought it fitting to make available as part of our podcast series.
So, here we have a two part podcast by Traianos Pakioufakis and Ben Taaffe, illustrating — from a Meupe perspective, anyhow — what Rhythmatism means to them: MEUPE + {MOVE} = MEUVE}. Enjoy!

Gilbert Fawn's latest album, Dead Rhythm, out through exciting new Perth label Grave New World is currently leading the charge for album of the year here at the Meupe office. We really can't recommend it enough; please head over to his Myspace and have a listen. His mix for Meupe, Condolences, sets a unique mood via Swans, The Shaggs, Shoeb Ahmad, Rabbit Island and plenty of traditional and psychedelic sounds from Asia and the Middle East. Get into it.

Meupe Podcast #3
30ish by Dave Miller
41:54 | 48mb
It was only a matter of time before we had a mix from our good friend and sometime Meupe artist, Dave Miller (Pivot/Warp). Dave took time out from the mixing of Pivot's third album to create 30ish, an ecletic mix which perhaps sits somewhere between his minimal solo work and Pivot's epic progressions. The mix features This Heat, The Normal, Suicide, John Hassell and Talking Heads amongst others.
"I'm not thirty yet, but on average, these tracks are. I've been digging around to fill in gaps in my musical knowledge recently and this era is a bit of a goldmine for me. Some are new revelations for me, some are old favourites, but I find them all really exciting in some way still, and considering their age, that's no mean feat. Part US & UK with a little JA at the end." - Dave Miller, 16 June 2009.

Meupe Podcast #2
Less Beats mix by Ben Taaffe
79:35 | 109.3mb
Meupe is excited to present the Less Beats mix, created by one of our favourite Perth DJs, {move} magnate Ben Taaffe (Underground Solution). We met Ben many years ago through the aesoteric crew (crucial!) and have since worked together on many {move}/Meupe events. This new mix accurately illustrates that relationship, fusing traditionally beat driven artists (Flying Lotus, Burial, Mark Kaminski, Mark Pritchard) with doom/drone/noise/ambient artists (Svarte Greiner, At Waugh With Gieles, Alva Noto & Ryuichi Sakamoto, Ben Frost).
Taaffe was recently overheard saying, "You've got to go over the top sometimes to see where the top is." Let's never stop.
