Craig McElhinney EP “Loser Orientation” out now!

30 September, 2009

Craig McElhinney’s
debut album You and Me Are Young and Brutal was released in just April this year. The album acutely illustrates McElhinney’s distinctive doom guitar technique and first forays into solo improvisation. Following its release, McElhinney has performed relentlessly around Perth, reinterpreting the sound of You and Me Are Young and Brutal whilst being propelled by the energy of being a solo performer. It is no surprise that just three months later, McElhinney has handed us new recordings.

Recorded and mixed in a single weekend in Myalup, Western Australia by M. Rosner, Loser Orientation finds McElhinney in the midst of a phase of hyperproductivity. The record contains both some of the most exploratory and poppy moments yet from the young guitarist, documenting his Bruce Lee inspired formless form approach. McElhinney’s journey began by bringing us the sound of taking the mountains to the sea. Loser Orientation is the calm before the surfer’s realisation of an imminent tidal wave.

Download available NOW exclusively from iTunes.

Limited edition numbered CDr available exclusively from McElhinney live performances as of Saturday October 17, 2009. Edition of 66.

Meupe Shop stock update

10 July, 2009

Meupe:
We’re officially sold out of the limited Wooshie 7″ - Natural’s Is In It - here at the Meupe office. Grab the very last remaining copies from Missing Link, Sunshine & Grease, Planet, 78 Records, Dada’s, Repressed Records and bargain online retailer Etheric Hymns. Don’t delay.

Farmer Frontier: We just sold the last of the most recent Splendid Friends release, Summer Moon Illusion. Hold tight though, as we should receive a resupply of that from Farmer Frontier in the next week or so.

Fifth Column: We finally have copies of the latest 7″ from our friends at Melbourne/Perth label Fifth Column. Fittingly, it’s a split featuring a Perth band Mental Powers and Melbourne soloist Free Choice. Two great artists, one low-price 7″ with great artwork from Yojimbo (see above).

Keep a look out for more great things from Fifth Column later this year, especially the new Pink Reason 7″ in time for their Australian tour, as well the first proper pressing of a classic tune from Sydney post-punk group Maestros and Dipsos.

As always, all orders from the Meupe Shop receive free worldwide shipping and the code to the Ambassador From Everywhere compilation. Head to the Meupe Shop now!

Meupe Podcast #3 | Dave Miller (Pivot/Warp)

1 July, 2009

It was only a matter of time before we had a mix from our good friend and sometime Meupe artist, Dave Miller (Pivot/Warp). Dave took time our from the mixing of Pivot’s third album to create 30ish, an ecletic mix which perhaps sits somewhere between his minimal solo work and Pivot’s epic progressions. The mix features This Heat, The Normal, Suicide, John Hassell and Talking Heads amongst others.

For best results we recommend you subscribe via our RSS feed, else you can download the podcast directly from here.
